A nice concert with some surprises--at least for me, whose only exposure to McGuinn's concerts has been through this blog and Live From Mars. As a solo artist McGuinn has depended heavily on the Byrds' repertoire, and this is true here as well, although to a lesser extent than other concerts. Eight of the 21 songs are post-Byrds songs--nine if you include Echoes, which is an acoustic adventure which includes Eight Miles High but is very different from that classic Byrds song. McGuinn's acoustic playing is quite professional overall, and his voice is in fine shape here. One thing I noticed in this recording is his introductions to the songs--rather than just saying, here's another Byrds song, he goes into a little history of many of the songs, such as St James Infirmary, and gives a nice explanation of why he chose to develop the 7-string guitar, which I know many McGuinn fans wish he would play less. I happen to like this instrument, and his reason for using it makes good musical sense. I also like the fact that he included a Gene Clark song in his playlist. While Roger and Gene had their ups and downs due to Clark's substance abuse, he was an original member of the Byrds and McGuinn's inclusion of She Don't Care About Time is a tribute to that fine musician. On the other hand, So You Want to be a Rock and Roll Star doesn't work for me in its acoustic version--it's just not rock 'n' roll, despite the audience's attempt to give it some energy. All in all, a very pleasant concert, low-key but very professional. A fitting elegy for your friend, R--B. Thanks for sharing this with the rest of us, and a happy new year to all the members of this blog.

Thanks Steve. Actually, Roger also played and sang "I'll Feel A Whole Lot Better" just before "She Don't Care About Time", but I left it out because the guy on my left sang along so loud that one could barely hear the artist!

Crazy, both blogs are identical, so there's nothing you're missing.

You are a subscriber on this blog; the second blog was created because the number of subscribers on the other one had reached its limit; you can't be a subscriber to both.

Thanks Rockingbyrd...
for me the important thing is to remain logged to your blog.
Just i was wonderin' why until the end of 2017 i was able to see both the sites... anyway, no problem, as i told the important is to be able to see at least one.
