Gene Clark And John York – Folk City, New York 1984

Gene Clark And John York – Folk City, New York 1984

Folk City, New York City, 6-22-1984, Late Show

This previously uncirculated soundboard recording surfaced recently on Dime.

Thanks to the original poster, to the “Albums That Should Exist” blog and to David who sent us the link to download it.

The artwork that came with the original download included a front cover with a picture of Gene Clark only, mentioning John York in smaller letters than those for Gene Clark. York shouldn’t be underestimated, so I made new artwork (including front cover, booklet, back insert and CD).

I also boosted the volume which was rather low and I corrected two song titles that were wrong.

The Peace Seekers – Last Day Saloon – San Francisco 1983

The Peace Seekers – Last Day Saloon – San Francisco 1983

October 21st, 1983

Left to right clockwise on the front cover:

Gene Parsons (banjo, guitar, vocals)

Sneaky Pete Kleinow (pedal steel guitar, vocals)

Skip Battin (bass, vocals)

Ed Ponder (drums)

During the fall of 1983, Gene Parsons, Skip Battin, Sneaky Pete Kleinow and Ed Ponder  played around California without using any real band name.

In July of 1984, after a change in personnel, they used the name "The Peace Seekers" for a tour of Europe with Roger McGuinn.

I credited this particular concert to the then-not-yet-existing band name “The Peace Seekers”.

Skip Battin does most of the talking.

From Thomas Aubrunner’s webpages:

Gene Parsons remembers:

"I didn't like the name "Peace Seekers", it sounded too weird! I mean, we all look for peace, but the name makes no sense. We were not really a band with a permanent line-up. We started in the Fall of '83 in California. I defineitely didn't want to be a drummer anymore so we got Eddie Ponder, and for the European tour we've got Jim Goodall. I wasn't supposed to come over to Europe with the band, it was a situation where it was gonna be SneakyPete or me - we can't afford to be a five man band. We also lived so far away from each other, rehearsals were a real problem. We were supposed to have two weeks of rehearsals in Los Angeles for this tour but I drove down to LA from northern California only to learn that Skip hadn't arrived from Oregon!"

Wild Thing Records 0110-0220-0330-0440-0550-0660 (The Netherlands 1971)

“Deze drie platen kosten samen vijftien gulden” (These three records together cost fifteen guilders)

Triple vinyl LP

Audience recordings

This is not the complete festival but it has many tracks not on the official and bootleg vinyl LPs, CDs, VHS and DVD releases.

The Holland Pop Festival / Stamping Ground Festival (often called “The Dutch Woodstock”) (in Kralingse Bos, Kralingen, Rotterdam, The Netherlands) was held from Friday June 26 until the early morning of Monday June 29, 1970.

The complete program was as follows:

Friday:

It's A Beautiful Day - Jefferson Airplane - Stone The Crows - Santana - The Flock - Canned Heat - Hot Tuna - Pentangle - Quintessence - East Of Eden (billed but didn’t perform)

Saturday:

The Byrds - Family - Dr. John The Night Tripper - Country Joe McDonald - Tyrannosaurus Rex - Renaissance (billed but didn’t perform) - Third Ear Band - Al Stewart - Supersister - CCC Folk & Blues Inc.

Sunday:

Mungo Jerry - Art Ensemble Of Chicago - John Surman - Han Bennink - Caravan - Fairport Convention - Fotheringay - Soft Machine - Pink Floyd

Several Dutch bands (including Ekseption, Focus and The Oscar Benton Blues Band) also performed, on a smaller stage in the vicinity.

The track listing hereunder is based on what’s mentioned at Discogs, but it has omissions and errors, which I have corrected to the best of my knowledge. More info welcome, including for track A1 which I think is NOT by Hot Tuna.
