Thanks R-B
One of the better line-ups of a band that I never really cared for.
Hope the performance is as good!
Thanks a lot.Always a pleasure to listen to Gene Clark.
Despite the presence of three ex-Byrds, Gene Clark used to insist that this was a Byrds TRIBUTE band. Well maybe it was, but Gene actually calls it the Byrds around Backstage Pass on the recording. Well whatever, it certainly kept the five Byrds from ever recording together again. Despite the Byrds name, just more than half of their material is actually Byrds material per se, though one could argue that Backstage Pass is kind of Byrds material. Whatever, it's well played and enthusiastic, for the most part. The band plays somewhat different arrangements of the original material, which is what you'd expect from a tribute band, and the beats and rhythms and guitars are certainly very much in the eighties. Of the Byrds songs, I liked My Back Pages--very well arranged vocals--and Eight Miles High the best--very highly energetic, that last song. The vocals are inconsistent, as the different versions of Byrds often were in concert. The guest members add their own songs, which don't sound at all like Byrds, but they also play well with the 'real' Byrds when required. What is sad is that both Gene and Michael were in need of cash at this point, and the way the band's name was milked at this time shows that money was at least part of the motive for this tribute band. Thanks for the music, R--B.
Can these possibly be re-posts?
Thank you very much RB!
