Happy New Year Rocking Byrd and thank you again for all the great posts.This one has an unblemished Water Is Wide which I prefer to Mcguinn's solo even with Crosby on Harmony. Imagine if Clarence and Crosby had played on it.
Another great version of I'm so Restless. I just hope these shows keep coming.By the way Do You have Gram and Emmylou at the Bijou cafe in Philadelphia 1973 ?,this one has eluded me. Thanks and Best wishes kevin
I didn't even know you were back with new material until just recently, and there's some fine stuff here. This concert is interesting because of John Guerin, who adds more of a punch to Byrds songs, although Parsons' harmony vocals are missed. The use of a phase shifter on the 12-string is also rather new, and he kept it up for his first 3 solo albums as well. The old Byrds songs sound good--Chimes of Freedom really rocks--but the real surprise is the inclusion of The Water is Wide and I'm so Restless, as well as Lost My Driving Wheel from other concerts, which showed that McGuinn had enough new material to start a new Byrds album. As it didn't happen, it's hard to say if the arrangements would have been different/better than what appeared on the first solo album. Born to Rock and Roll, another new song from this period, was bad on the Byrds reunion but much better by the White Byrds. Has there ever been a recording of the last Byrds concert with Chris Hillman and Joe Lala in New Jersey? It was supposed to be a bad show but would still be interesting to hear. Thanks for providing this music--I had assumed that the well had run dry a couple of years ago.
