Merry Christmas RB ! All the best for the New Year !
For all of us David Crosby fans this is a nice surprise--a version of his famous first album suitable for karaoke for those who like to sing along. Most of them are indeed songs without words, which means there's less of Crosby and more of the excellent backup musicians who supported him wonderfully on this record. Jerry Garcia's contributions are particularly noteworthy, and much of the original album's power comes from his fantastic solos. This is even more obvious on the first version here of Cowboy Movie, which doesn't have his leads. Crosby is not always popular with Byrds fans, due in great part to his outspokenness and crotchety character, but I think in the end his departure was felt more than Gene Clark's--the Byrds never again reached the musical sophistication he brought to the group, especially in 5D, YTY and NBB. Thanks for this recording, RB, and a happy new year to yourself and all the contributors and readers of this blog.
