This seems to be a pretty important concert, from what I've read, yet there are no comments. I have several comments on various aspects of this interesting upload.
1--The audience is definitely a factor here. Noisy, appreciative, and supportive, it shows what we post-Covid fans have missed in our music--live shows. Nothing like an artist interacting with his public. The energy they gave to both McGuinn and Dylan is obvious from the start.
2--Except for Sunshine Love, McGuinn's concert is pretty typical. I'm surprised that he continues to perform the same songs in much the same way without getting tired of them--he certainly seems enthusiastic here.
2--When one hears an Eagles concert, or even a Pink Floyd concert, you get very little variation from the recorded songs. When you hear a Dylan concert, you get nothing like the original versions. Some call that re-interpretation. I call it avoiding getting bored with your repertoire. Dylan's reworking of his songs is part of his concert style, and it works well, especially in songs like Ballad of a Thin Man.
3--The Heartbreakers is a great backup band here, like the Band was earlier. Dylan once wanted the Byrds to be a backup band for him, but McGuinn refused (this was the latter Byrds).
4--I don't much like Dylan's voice--it can be expressive, but it is very nasal and that gets on my nerves after awhile. McGuinn's voice can also be nasal at times, but is not as grating.
5--Looking at Dylan's playlist, I wish McGuinn had been more creative with his. He has a pretty vast song catalog, especially with Folk Den, but seems to be afraid to go beyond the 'Founder of the Byrds' material.
Thanks for this very interesting upload.
Thanks Steve for your review and comments.
Yes, indeed, there are less and less comments and I wonder if it's worth going on with new posts. I'm not after thank yous but getting comments is pleasant.
