Thanks R-B

An unlikely duo in some ways. Skip seemed to do a fair bit of work in Italy. We will give it a listen with interest as always!

A surprise as I didn't know that these two had played together. As expected, the depend heavily on their backgrounds with the Byrds, Burritos, Gene Clark and, in Skip's case, from his experiences in the fifties. And so what we have is a lot of covers of Bob Dylan, the Byrds, The Flying Burrito Brothers and even Donovan (36 seconds worth). They more or less split up lead singing chores, and provide some pretty good harmony (with help from Ricky Mantoan--and Italian steel guitar player??). Their covers, fortunately, are not imitations but rather re-workings, which mean they provide their own touches to the songs. John York will never make fans forget Gram Parsons, but he does a decent job on his songs. Skip's voice is an acquired taste for a lot of people, and he was often criticized for not sounding Byrdy enough (did Gene Parsons?). The sound is all right, although sometimes the guitars are very much in the background, especially when Battin plays piano. I must say I rather enjoyed this recording, even though there's a sense that they are exploiting their Byrds connections for all they're worth. If there's a real surprise here, it's an extended version of Blowin' in the Wind--over 8 minutes long! Interesting upload, R--B, thanks.
