Not the tightest set, but some good moments nonetheless - Nice version of Bugler with a pretty solo, Clarence on mandolin for Batin’s song, and McGuinn playing banjo against the power trio. Clarence rips a great solo on Chimes - almost like a synth with all those bender licks. There’s a nice solo on the acoustic version of Tambourine Man, too. Clarence plays some very nice runs before Rollin’, but doesn’t take a solo - too bad. He does, however, play some great fills throughout Chestnut Mare, and kicks off Eight Miles with a cool, swampy riff before launching into a bender improv.

An interesting concert for a number of reasons. There are a lot of songs here ranging through much of the Byrds' career. A case in point is Mr Tambourine Man in two versions: their later, stripped down acoustic version, and an electric version far closer to the original than their usual late-Byrds, overly busy versions. Another surprise is a return to Sweetheart of the Rodeo Gram Parson influence, with You're Still on my Mind sung in imitation Gram parsons fashion. One of the little treats is another version of Born to Rock And Roll. Not a great song, but this version is much better than the reunion album's. Only 3 albums are not represented: Turn Turn Turn, Notorious Byrd Brothers, and Byrdmaniax (they sure gave up on the album fast!). The vocals on this recording are uneven (I can't stand McGuinn's falsetto on Jesus is Just Alright) and mostly McGuinn's, with 4 songs going to the other Byrds. The instruments sound fine, though Parson's drumming is a little too understated in some songs. Clarence is at the top of his game here, and even McGuinn's 12-string sounds more upfront than usual. An enjoyable concert, so thanks for that, Rocking--Byrd.
