The Byrds – Whisky-A-Go-Go September 1970

The Byrds – Whisky-A-Go-Go September 1970

The Whisky A Go-Go, Los Angeles, CA – September 19, 1970 (early show)

Roger McGuinn - guitar, vocals
Gene Parsons - drums, harmonica, vocals
Clarence White - guitar, vocals
Skip Battin - bass, vocals

Although relatively short in terms of live performances during this era, this recording provides another example of the latter days Byrds lineup just days after the release of "Untitled". When taken in conjunction with the highly adventurous late show, also available on this blog and which was essentially a loose jam session with their friends in The Flying Burrito Brothers, this concert helps to complete the picture of this memorable night.

1. Lover Of The Bayou (3:25)
2. You Ain't Going Nowhere (3:01)
3. I Trust (3:54)
4. My Back Pages (2:23)
5. B.B. Blues - Baby What You Want Me To Do (4:27)
6. Well Come Back Home (8:26)
7. Truck Stop Girl (3:23)
8. Take A Whiff (On Me) (2:57)
9. It's All Right Ma (I'm Only Bleeding) (3:16)
10. Ballad Of Easy Rider (2:22)
11. Jesus Is Just Alright (3:15)
12. Wheels On Fire (5:21)

An interesting, well-recorded concert. The vocal harmonies are especially clear, although I think the signature 12-string sound is somewhat muted, like it was on Untitled. It seems that Gene Parsons is once again not considered as a lead singer, despite having, in my opinion, a better voice than either Clarence or Skip. Oh well. Thanks for the upload--I've been pleasantly surprised to see how much is still out there after all these years.

Thanks, another great addition! Now, is the Burrito Bros performance from this early show also available, to complete the full 'set' from this historic date and shows? Just wondering. Much Thanks for finding and making these available.

I was also wondering about that myself. Hopefully the Burrito Brothers early show will surface.
BB it is nice to see you post. I really enjoy your blog and hope that you continue writing.
By any chance, does any one know what happened to Pink Roberts Forum? It disappeared this past week. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Peace
