Well, as expected, two of the three songs here are the Byrds' two biggest hits. Roger's playing here is quite fluid, and Gene provides a nice rhythm guitar. The high harmony is also missing,but with the later addition of Chris Hillman that was soon remedied. What is interesting here is the Gene Clark song Release Me Girl, a staple of his concert with McGuinn. A very moody piece, well sung and rather stark. Those accustomed to this arrangement must have been shocked to hear the funky version on the first MCH album. What? The Byrds doing disco? Well, why not? Thanks for this little gem, R--B.
