Thank you, RB; any Gene Clark is always appreciated and welcomed !
Thank you again Rocking Byrd,I agree with David about the Gene Clark being
appreciated. I thought 'for completists only' was a little harsh as I thought it was not a bad sounding concert and performance. Just lately you have posted interesting shows by McGuinn ,Crosby and Gene all helping to keep the music and interest going so thank you again but please post the last ? Gene and Pat Robinson track and any other partial or fragmentory tracks , I find them fascinating. Thanks yet again
I think it really was for completists. I have heard several recordings of Gene Clark and Carla Olson, and they are very good together, especially in the album So Rebellious a Lover, which I have pieced together through YouTube. Her Carla doesn't appear vocally until the 7th track, although she may be playing the guitar in the other tracks, I don't know. So I was a little disappointed in that respect. The track selection is decent, about what you'd expect if Gene was doing a solo concert. He tries to sing with more 'soul' on several songs, such as She Darked the Sun, but I've always felt he was better when his singing was more understated and moody. The recording is, well, listenable, but there is a lot of chatter, which I guess you can expect in what seems to be an informal venue. Gene Clark is always interesting to listen to, he and David Crosby produced, in my opinion, the best post-Byrds music from the original group, although Chris Hillman has made some fine music as well. When I hear these concerts, I can't help feeling that if the original group had stayed together a few years more, they might have produced some amazing music. Too bad they didn't get along so well. Thanks R--B.
