Gene Clark material is always welcome here. This is a very stripped-down band, with no drums, but that doesn't really matter except on songs like No Other, which really demands a bigger sound. The backup musicians are appropriate for the arrangements, and the effect is kind of a John Wesley Harding sound, which is fine. The choice of songs is eclectic, but then again Clark had written so many songs at that point that one could dip into almost any part of his catalog and come up with different choices on different nights (unlike the later Byrds concerts, which were rather schematic). The vocals are, well, rather hillbilly, if one pardons the expression, from the backup vocals to Gene's occasional yodeling, for lack of a better work (end of Silver Raven, for example). I don't know the venue of this concert, but maybe that's what they wanted. I don't suppose there are many Byrds-related concerts still out there, but you still keep going, and an old Byrds fan like me appreciates your efforts, Rocking--Byrd.
