The Byrds – Never again
SPA - The
Early Years – 02-CD 3315 (Europe 1989)
* Tracks 12
and 16 (two Bob Dylan songs) are by a female singer backed by a band sounding
like The Byrds. At the time this CD came out, the tracks were said to be demos
for a then-unknown singer trying to jump on the “Dylan songs = hits” bandwagon
and that the backing band was The Byrds. I have more than serious doubts about
that but who knows?

this was a really great cd when it came out, as it had stuff not on the Never Before issue. Also has the banjo track on John Riley that was removed from the issue of the 5D cd reissue. Also,it includes the complete Stockholm show with "The Bells Of Rhymney ", which one doesn't see often. Agree with you on the demos, RB; not The Byrds for sure. I think there was mention of who it actually was in Johnny Rogan's book.
THANKS R-B
I have this on vinyl but the sound quality is poor. Looking forward to hearing a better version.
Edwin, are you sure you have this on vinyl? To my knowledge, it only came out on CD.
I will need to check in the garage. You know how it is!
Found it. I was kind of wrong.
Album is called Byrds on the Wyng on Wally Jig Records. Tracks are 1. You Won't Have to Cry 2.She Has a Way 3.Turn turn turn 4. I Don't Believe Me (sic)--same female lead 5. Eight Miles High 6. Why 7. Ways to Show it 8. Triad instrumental 8. I Knew I'd Want You 9. Eight Miles High again 10. Hey Joe 10. I know You Rider 11. Disembodied Spirit 12. Scrambled Egg Jam 13. Mr Tambourine Man 14. Thoughts and Words 15. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue--same female lead.
So some of the same demo tracks but no Stockholm tracks. There are more details in Johnny Rogan's book (pp595)
Yes; I have this LP but it's not the same, although some of the tracks are on both releases.
The Stockholm segments show that the original Byrds were a better live band than they are normally given credit for.
Would you be able to share this again? Thanks
