The Flying Burrito Brothers / Country Gazette – Live In Holland – Breda 1973

The Flying Burrito Brothers / Country Gazette – Live In Holland – Breda 1973

The Turfschip, Breda, The Netherlands – February 16, 1973

Rick Roberts, Byron Berline, Kenny Wertz, Alan Munde, Roger Bush, Sneaky Pete Kleinow, Eric Dalton

---In Holland, even though the band was now no more, The Flying Burrito Brothers had almost legendary status and, following an offer for one final tour, Rick Roberts resurrected the band using the same musicians as 1972 except that Sneaky Pete Kleinow returned on steel guitar replacing Don Beck.

They played shows similar to the ones they did on the 1972 tour. Although the bluegrass influence was even greater because of the continuation of "Country Gazette" and despite lack of rehearsal for the Burritos material, the tour was a success with a couple of shows recorded and broadcast on various Dutch radio stations.---

Thanks for this, which looks like a pretty unique item! I'm looking forward to listening to this lineup of the Burritos. There are those who feel that the Byrds just ain't the Byrds without Roger McGuinn (most notably, David Crosby and Chris Hillman). I'm of the mindset that the Burritos ain't the Burritos without Sneaky Pete. (Unless, of course, Rick Roberts, Chris Hillman, Bernie Leadon, and Al Perkins are ALL involved!)

Well, I had a chance to listen to this and I just wanted to say that this is a really nice recording of a top-notch performance! As the description indicates, Country Gazette are front and center with a strong bluegrass influence. The Burritos songs are not short-changed, though, and are performed equally well. Even the one song that they've never played before ("Pick Me Up On Your Way Down," I think) is played much better than you might expect! Don't be deterred by the absence of Chris Hillman and Gram Parsons; if you're a Burritos fan you should give this a listen!

I was there, living in Breda, Netherlands at the time after my folks moved the family from Fremont, California to the Netherlands three years before this concert took place at the Turfschip concert building. I had a buddy who worked at Het Turfschip and he let me sneak in through a side entrance which was off to the left side of the stage. Can't remember which band member was positioned to that side of the stage, but I saw him look down at us and grin and nod as my buddy unlatched the lock on the door and walked away, allowing me to sneak in and get a free stageside view of the concert. The one who was on my side side of the stage never ratted me out and smiled and waved to me at the end of the show before they took off.

Would you please upload this one.
Although it is stretching the Burritos persona at this stage before it was totally blown away by Sneaky Pete et al, it will still be interesting. They were always well received in Holland and seemed to play well as a result.

Thanks for making this available.
It is a bit removed from the earlier FBB but still enjoyable.
