Note: this was engineer Dinky Dawson’s first concert with the Byrds, and it turned out that due to a defective PA part (a faulty stereo splitter), the sound was heavily distorted at times. This nearly cost Dawson his job with the band. One can imagine how angry McGuinn was at him.

Roger McGuinn’s Thunderbyrd, Gene Clark’s K.C. Southern Band and The Chris Hillman Band embarked on a European tour in the spring of 1977 (ill-fated, as Clark and Hillman quit the tour after a couple of days, flying back to the USA and leaving McGuinn alone to finish the tour). They played two nights at the Hammersmith Odeon in London. Both shows were recorded by the BBC, and are the sources from which the “Three Byrds Land In London” double CD from 1997 was compiled.

This is Thunderbyrd’s concert from April 30^th (including three Byrds tracks with Gene Clark and Chris Hillman), before the recording was tampered with, first by the BBC before the broadcast, and later for mixing the double CD.
