A nice, low-key concert. As I don't live in the US, I had never heard Gene Clark sing with Carla Olson, and what a fine duet they make. Carla has a strong voice which sounds best in the lower registers, and her voice blends in well with Clark's. I hadn't heard most of these songs, so there's an element of surprise as well, at least for me. It's a shame Gene never got the recognition he deserved--he was a fine, prolific songwriter and an effective singer. His version of Hot Burrito #2 (terrible title for this song)is superior even to Gram Parsons' soulful version Carla Olson doesn't do so well on the high parts, but I like her voice over all. This is a nice performance with a competent backup band and an appreciative audience. Like all Gene Clark concerts at this stage, there¡s a certain element of sadness knowing that this gifted but flawed human being had only a few more years to go. Thanks, R--B; this is a little gem.
