Edwin, are you from Scotland?
ReplyDelete1951-1982 Scotland

I guess you used to listen to Radio Scotland in the 60s then. I was there.
ReplyDeleteMan, that is going back a bit! Radio Scotland on a lighthouse ship in the Forth. Stuart Henry is the only dj I can think off. Who was the guy who suffered sea-sickness and had to record his shows from the mainland? Tommy Shields was the owner. it is all coming back to me!
ReplyDeleteIt was difficult being a Byrds fan in Scotland in the 60s. Too many Tamla and Stax lovers. But there were some. Where did you live?
I enjoyed the Japanese tv recording. They seemed to be in awe of the country. I am going to Japan next month for the first time but I don't suppose I will catch any western music.
Stuart Henry was the seasick one. Other djs were Jack McLaughlin, Tony Allan, John Kerr, Mark West, Ben Healy and so many others. I wrote "I was there" because I was on the Comet ship in July and August 1967 before the closedown.
ReplyDeleteCool!
ReplyDeleteThose were great times.
If you were keen on the Byrds back then, did you you not find interest in them in Scotland a little limited too?
Where did you go once Radio Scotland had to shut down?
The only Byrds records I found in the record library on board were a couple of early singes and a promo copy of their "Fifth Dimension" LP (which they got for free I guess). After the close down, I went back to being a student in electronics engineering.
ReplyDeleteLooking for setlist or at least confirmation of date on a McGuinn, Clark & Hillman appearance at Hunt's in Burlington VT...thinking it was 1979 but setlist.com shows nothing, so I wondered if there is another datebase, source of info etc...
